Heading into the last month before the election, state superintendent candidates Joy Hofmeister and John Cox are tied in the latest News On 6/News 9 poll.
The survey of 400 likely voters shows Hofmeister, a Republican, and Cox, a Democrat, are even at 38 percent. Twenty-four percent of voters are still undecided.
A previous News On 6/News 9 poll, released a month ago, showed only three points separating the candidates.
Bill Shapard, whose company SoonerPoll.com conducted the survey, said the outcome of the superintendent's race could be determined by what happens in other November elections, including Governor and U.S. Senate.
“There's not very much money spent on school superintendent races, not a lot of messaging statewide, so the point is both candidates are handicapped and sometimes it comes down to what happens at the top of the ticket,” Shapard said.
The survey of 400 likely voters was conducted Sept. 27-29 by SoonerPoll.com and has a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percentage points. Results are weighted by age and Congressional district, stratified to Oklahoma likely voter demographics.
