Strong to severe storms will be impacting Green Country overnight into Monday.
The stage has been set, strong southeast winds have ushered moisture back in and severe storms have been cutting through western Oklahoma.
The timing of this system has sped up. A strong surface low cutting across the state will provide the appropriate forcing for storms to develop ahead of the cold front itself.
The cold front will be swinging around the backside of the low and not actually cut through the Tulsa metro until midday on Monday. The strong to severe storms should be moving into Arkansas by Monday afternoon.
Until then, flash flood watches and severe thunderstorm watches have been issued in preparation for these storms to cross into eastern Oklahoma. Storms that develop into a line ahead of the cold front will be our primary concern.
Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats but conditions are suitable for possible spins along the leading edge of the line of storms.
These types of spin ups happen quickly and can be hard to see on radar. Not to mention, this system is moving in overnight, making spin ups hard to see and more dangerous.
With this system speeding up, we might catch a break in activity during morning rush hour which would be a blessing for everyone trying to get to work and school.
The main threat of showers and storms will be east of Tulsa by that time but leftover showers are expected to continue through the afternoon and evening.
This surface low is strong enough to wrap showers around the backside. The surface portion of this system will have moved out of the state but an upper level wave is still lagging behind and will provide enough energy for the leftover showers in the afternoon.
For eastern Oklahoma, we could still see rain until the early morning hours for Tuesday.
After all the rain we received a few days ago, we could see one to two additional inches widespread and maybe more locally. That will cause a concern for flash flooding. Take it easy on wet roads and turn around, don't drown.
The work week is starting off with a bang but it quiets down on Tuesday. It will still be cool, but the sun will come out so that should help brighten some spirits.
Look for cool starts and warmer afternoons through the start of next weekend.
