The 20th annual Dia De Los Muertos will be held in the Brady Arts District Saturday, November 1. The Hispanic holiday - Day of the Dead - is a way to remember lost loved ones in a celebration of their memory.

Living Arts of Tulsa at 307 East M.B. Brady Street hosts the celebration from 3 to 11:30 p.m. with events for the whole family. There is a $5 cash only entry fee for adults, and children 12 and under are free.

Events include a tour of the ofrendas - altars that members of the community have created for their deceased loved ones, Hispanic foods, crafts and art.

Living Arts Artistic Director Steve Liggett first started planning Tulsa's Dia De Los Muertos festival after his father's death in 1994. The event has grown each year.

Now in its 20th anniversary, 15 area schools are participating in the construction of altars and school students take field trips to the Living Arts building days in advance to learn about the traditions behind the festival.

Some of the activities you can expect are Loteria, a game similar to bingo, murals on walls and canvas, sugar skull decorating and face painting, booths and performances.

The grand finale is the Skeleton Parade at about 10:30 p.m. followed by the Fire Dancers at 11 p.m. The public is encouraged to bring handmade skeletons or wear a skeleton costume to dance with the dead.

There will be four entry gates including new admission gates at Brady Street and Detroit Avenue. Off-street parking is available at the BOK Center lot at 1st Street and Main. Ride the trolley from there.
