Tulsa's Union Public School superintendent attended a White House conference Wednesday focusing on helping school districts across the U.S. transition to digital learning.
President Barack Obama spoke at the "ConnectED to the Future" conference, saying the United States needs to bring its schools into the 21st Century when it comes to technology.
Union Superintendent Dr. Kirt Hartzler was one of 100 school leaders from across the U.S. invited to participate in the summit.
In his opening remarks the President said less than 40 percent of public schools have high-speed Internet in their classrooms. He says that's not good for the country where the Internet was invented.
School officials shared with one other and the Education Department promising approaches to using technology in classes.
After the President's speech, there was a digital pledge-signing ceremony with the superintendents joined virtually by hundreds more across the country.
