Woman, Child Hospitalized After Fire Destroys Creek County Home

A woman and a child were taken to the hospital after a mobile home in rural Creek County caught on fire early Thursday. 

Sapulpa firefighters got the call at about 12:15 a.m. to the home in the 17000 block of West Teel Road between Sapulpa and Kellyville. 

Firefighters say two families consisting of four adults and three children ages one, one and three were asleep in the home and all escaped through a bedroom window.

Fire Battalion Chief D.J. Keizor said the families were awakened by loud crashing noises caused by the fire. 

"They actually were cut off by the main part of the fire to the front door, could not make access to the back door. So everyone was put out through a window in a bedroom. They started putting the children out and then the adults crawled out the window and made it to safety," said Battalion Chief D.J. Keizor.

Firefighters said a pregnant woman and one child were taken to the hospital as a precaution to be checked out for smoke inhalation. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire destroyed the home.

The Red Cross was called out and is assisting both families.
