Crews from several communities are working to quell grass fires sparking up around central parts of Oklahoma on Wednesday.
Firefighters were first called out to contain a grass fire near the Turner Turnpike, east of the Wellston area. Crews say the fire started on the westbound shoulder, near mile marker 161 of the highway and is starting to spread into the tree line. Wind drove the smoke from that fire away from the highway.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Some structures were in its path, but crews worked quickly and were able to get it under control before it spread too far.
As firefighters were battling the blaze near Wellston, another fire flared up north of I-40 near Shawnee.
Several counties in Oklahoma remain under a Red Flag Warning for Wednesday.
