Investigators said they found a man's body in a car pulled from the Caney River at Highway 169 Friday morning. A friend has identified the man as Rafael Hernandez-Torres.
They said the body has a bullet wound in it.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Leonard McMillan said the OHP got a call about a car in the river just north of Collinsville at 6:28 Friday morning. He said a dump truck driver called 911, and the call went to the Rogers County Sheriff's Office which transferred it to the OHP.
He said tracks in the grass between the two bridges that indicate the car was intentionally driven into the river from the north side. He said the current pushed the car under the bridge and it got stuck on the east side of the northbound bridge.
The car is a silver 4-door Nissan with Spanish writing on the windshield and back window which also includes a phone number. The OHP says it's checked the car's registration and it has not been reported stolen.
A firefighter from Northwest Rogers County Fire Protection District rappelled from the bridge down to the car, about 40 feet below. He opened a door and crawled inside and reported the car was clear.
He then hooked a tow cable onto the car and it was pulled onto the north bank. That's when the rescue found a body in the trunk.
The OHP secured the car and the scene until homicide investigators from the Rogers County Sheriff's Office can take over the case.
