State Emergency Operations Center Activated In Oklahoma

Due to severe weather conditions and active tornadoes across the Oklahoma, the State Emergency Operations Center was activated, Wednesday evening.

Due to severe weather conditions and active tornadoes across the Oklahoma, the State Emergency Operations Center was activated, Wednesday evening.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management is in contact with emergency managers across the state and coordinating with numerous agencies including the OHP, Oklahoma State Department of Health, American Red Cross, and Oklahoma National Guard.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has closed I-35 in both directions in Norman from Tecumsah Road to Robinson Road due to storm damage which include downed power lines.

The H.E. Bailey Turnpike at I-44 is also closed from Chickasha to Newcastle, mile markers 85 to 108.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports flooding on l-35 between at 164th Street In Cleveland County. That location is between South 19th Street and Indian Hills Road. Both north and southbound lanes are impacted.

Driving through any of those areas are highly discouraged.

The American Red Cross is working with the Grady County Emergency Management to set up shelter for residents impacted by the storms.

The Salvation Army canteens are being set up in the affected areas.

Damages in Bridge Creek and Blanchard are being assessed.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission reports more than 10,000 power outages statewide.
