Construction Begins On Sand Springs Splash Pad Projects

Wednesday, construction got underway on two splash pad projects in Sand Springs; one on the north side of the river and one on the south side.

A fence is already up around parts of Pratt-Civitan Park near West 44th and Walnut Creek Drive.

Sand Springs Mayor Mike Burdge said there's been a push to build water recreation areas in the city for the last decade.

Voters approved bond money for the splash pads last year.

Burdge is happy that splash pads can be built on both sides of town.

"Hopefully that this effort is just one more effort to continue to combine the thinking and the thought pattern of the citizens of Sand Springs that the river doesn't really divide us," he said.

The second splash pad is being built at River City Park.

A Rotary Club gift of $60,000 will make it one of just three "Supersplash" features in Oklahoma.

Burdge hopes they'll be able to open the splash pads before the end of the summer.
