The City of Tulsa and the police department issued a scam alert Monday.

They say scammers posing as city employees are calling businesses claiming that the business has overdue water and sewer bills and threatening immediate shutoff.

The city says scammers demand the businesses pay their bills immediately over the phone.

"The City of Tulsa does make courtesy calls if accounts are past due, but will never call to ask for credit card information over the phone."

To verify your account balance you can call the city at 918-596-9511. If you are a victim of this scam, police want you to file a report on the Tulsa Police Department's web page.
