Several lakes in Oklahoma are still above normal levels this Fourth of July weekend.
Two months of heavy rainfall closed several boat ramps, campgrounds and affected business on Oologah Lake.
News On 6 went back out to Oologah today where business is picking back up as the lake starts to recede.
About a month ago, the Red Bud Marina was sitting about 20 feet above normal with the lake levels now with the water going down business out here is picking up.
Red Bud Marina on Oologah Lake is a busy place this holiday.
“It's the best way to celebrate the Fourth. Actually, it's a fantastic day," said Maru Roja, stand up paddle boarder.
Stand up paddlers, kayakers and boaters are coming down to enjoy the lake.
Back in June, lake levels topped off at 21 feet above normal after a record rainfall in May.
The Army Corps of Engineers opened the lake's dam and spillway gates for flood control.
The high water caused business at the Red Bud Marina to slow down.
“We're just hoping the weather stays nice like it is and people come out to the lake," said Michael Fawcett of Red Bud Marina.
Fawcett said his marina business was down 60-percent in June, but expects to break even after a busy holiday weekend.
“We're going to see a lot of traffic, and hopefully we'll get back in the black," Fawcett said. “I can sleep at night knowing that everything is pretty close to back to normal."
Lake visitors didn't know the lake levels were above normal.
Fawcett has one recommendation if you've run out of ideas to celebrate the holiday.
“Get off the couch, (and) go to the lake," Fawcett said.
