Broken Arrow Police shut down three stores and made three arrests of clerks accused of selling alcohol to minors Tuesday night.
For all three of the stores, this was not their first citation for selling alcohol to minors.
The BAPD’s alcohol compliance checks started at Roosters, where police picked up an underage volunteer to put rumors that the store sells to minors to the test.
Sure enough, not only did the salesperson sell alcohol to an 18-year-old, she just had court Tuesday for another citation she got three weeks ago, at the same store.
"Oh my God, no...I just went through this...I just went to court today," she said. “I've been so upset with the first one, then they come in here and get me to sell beer again, I can't take it, I'm going to jail..."
A former narcotics officer pointed out meth pipes and marijuana pipes at Roosters, sold with a disclaimer: “Accessory for tobacco use only.”
Police closed the store, and then closed two more stores, when they, too, sold to minors.
It was a Peep's salesperson's second citation for sale or delivery of beer or alcohol to a minor, and it was the Mighty Mart salesperson's third offense.
Police said the stores could lose their licenses if they keep selling to minors.
To top it off, police said they found several illegal drugs on the Rooster's salesperson, Beverley Bugher. She's also being booked on several drug charges.
More than a dozen stores were given citations Tuesday night.
The officers’ overtime is paid for by a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Studies.
