A Tulsa man who pleaded guilty in the arson death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son has been sentenced to life in prison. Steven Clement entered a guilty plea last month during the middle of jury selection.

Clement was sentenced to life without parole for first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for endangering a human life during arson.

Those sentences will run concurrently.

The fire happened early on the morning of September 16, 2014.

The mom told the courtroom she was out of town working when Clement started texting her, saying he was going to light the house on fire with all the kids sleeping inside and asking if she had insurance.

Three other children were in the home. A girl, 11 at the time, was badly hurt.

The children told the court they were asleep in their rooms and woke up to flames and smoke all around them.

Prosecutor Andrea Brown said, "Each of the children said he made no effort to notify them the house was on fire or to help get them out. Each of the surviving children made it out on their own, and I'm incredibly proud of them for that."
