All week long, News On 6 is sharing stories of veterans nominated to win an $800 mattress set from Bob Mills Furniture.
6 In The Morning anchors Rich Lenz, LeAnne Taylor and Alan Crone recently joined Bob Mills and Dr. Angie from Bob Mills Furniture to surprise five veterans with a lunch and a gift certificate for a new mattress set. They were all nominated by someone close to them.
Michael Dunning is a retired Air Force Specialist with nearly 22 years of service. Dunning was deployed overseas in Germany, Italy and Desert Storm.
He says getting the mattress set is something he can definitely use and he appreciates the recognition for his years of service.
"It took a number of years, matter of fact, I think it was my 19th year before someone came up to me and said thank you for your service. So something like this is humbling and I'm very proud to be honored in that way," said Michael Dunning.
Dunning is now serving as a Collinsville Police Officer where he's served nine years. He and his wife Harmony have a 10-year-old daughter named Wynter and Michael also has a son named Colton.
