A Tulsa apartment complex caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, and crews were able to put out the flames quickly to minimize damage. The Tulsa Fire Department said it had to call in extra help because of the wind.
When they arrived, the fire had already gone through the roof of one of the buildings in the Avondale apartment complex near 71st Street and Riverside Drive.
Osage Sky News 6 HD flew overhead as firefighters on ladder trucks and those inside the structure battled the blaze.
Captain Stan May said it took firefighters about 20 minutes to contain the flames, but one building seems to be destroyed.
It is expected that the American Red Cross will be on scene shortly to assist families who are displaced just a day before Thanksgiving.
Firefighters have gotten the fire under control and now are taking down hot spots.
TFD says several pets were rescued and that no injuries have been reported.
Records show that, in 2007, another fire at the complex destroyed 16 units, then, in 2012 four more were destroyed by flames.
