As temperatures drop, some families may be struggling to heat their homes. But there is an option for getting help with heating costs.
As winter weather approaches, heating can be a big concern for some families.
That's why LIHEAP -- or the Oklahoma Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program -- wants people to know about its program.
"When the heating costs go up in the winter time, it just helps them out a little bit,” Carrie Foster said.
The program received an $8 million grant this year to help families who qualify.
The money goes toward monthly heating expenses, but in order for it to do any good, families need to apply for the help.
“The maximum payment is $250, and the lowest is $55,” she said. “It just depends on the household’s income and household size."
Families must meet specific income requirements to get aid from LIHEAP. To find out if you qualify, click here.
