The sixth biggest sports story of 2015 is a TU turnaround.
Under new head coach Philip Montgomery, the Golden Hurricane won six games and qualified for a bowl game for the first time in three seasons.
The record might have been even better if not for a knee injury to star receiver Keevan Lucas.
Here’s 5-6.
5. A Trojan 4-Peat
Jenks won its fourth straight state championship with a convincing 35-14 win over Broken Arrow.
2015 was another great year for Trojan quarterback Cooper Nunley. He finished his career as the leading passer in school history.
4. Dallas Keuchel's Amazing Season
The Bishop Kelley graduate was the American League's starting pitcher in the All-Star game. He went on to win 20 games and become the first Oklahoma native to win the Cy Young Award. He'll accept the Warren Spahn award as baseball's top lefty next month in Oklahoma City.
3. Sweet 16 Sooners
Lon Kruger joined Eddie Sutton as the only coaches to lead four different schools to the Sweet 16.The Sooners did it with a 72-66 win over Dayton, before losing to Michigan State. Most of the key pieces are back and the Sooners could make another deep run next year.
2. Kevin Durant's right foot and the Ripple Effects Throughout the Thunder
K.D had three surgeries on his foot and played in just 27 games. Without Durant, the Thunder missed the playoffs and then changed head coaches heading into the final year of his contract.
Scott Brooks out, Billy Donovan in.
And the biggest sports story of the year is the success of the Sooner football team.
One year removed from an 8-5 season, the Sooners are just two wins away from a national championship.
Led by Sporting News player of the year Baker Mayfield, the OU offense found new life, scoring 46 points per game and a convincing Bedlam win to clinch the Big 12 title. The Sooners are favored to beat Clemson in the Orange Bowl, so their story may be just getting started.
