The City of Tulsa says it's ready for the next round of winter precipitation.
Street crews spent Tuesday filling potholes and dealing with other damage. They'll be called in Wednesday morning at 3 a.m. to help with road conditions before rush hour.
The city had approximately 10,000 tons of salt on hand over the weekend and used 985 tons of salt for this week's weather event.
Only two roads remain closed as of Tuesday, 64th and Peoria and 81st and Elwood. The city expects to re-open them on Wednesday.
The city says crews are working their regular refuse, recycling and bulky waste routes to catch up from the time missed due to the weather.
Recyclables picked up Monday and Tuesday were too wet and damaged to be processed at the recycling facility and crews had to deliver the items to Covanta for conversion into energy. Additionally, two trailers of damaged recycling commodities had to be taken to Quarry Landfill since Covanta was already at capacity.
Recyclables were mostly damaged from paper and cardboard that turned into mush. The paper and cardboard mush then damaged the glass and metal commodities that have to meet specific requirements to sell to the end user, according to the city.
The city said high winds blew the recycling cart lids open and allowed the rain to soak the materials inside.
The City of Tulsa and recycling contractor TRT will monitor the situation closely in hopes the recycling stream can return to the recycling facility either Wednesday or at the very latest by the end of the week.
