In one of the most exciting matchups of the season, the No. 1 Oklahoma gymnastics team won the second session of the second annual Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad with an impressive 197.950 Saturday afternoon inside Paycom Center in downtown Oklahoma City.
No. 2 LSU came in second with a 197.650, followed by a 197.275 from No. 6 Cal and a 196.800 from No. 4 Utah. The Sooners led wire-to-wire, posting the top event scores on bars (49.700), beam (49.525) and floor (49.525).
Senior Jordan Bowers claimed the all-around title with a 39.675 in a star-studded field of all-around competitors. Audrey Davis claimed the bars title with a near-perfect 9.975, while Faith Torrez used a 9.975 of her own to take home the beam title. Torrez also finished second in the all-around with a 39.625, while Davis placed top five with a 39.600. Lily Pederson added a 39.550 to match her career best.
After the first rotation, the Sooners led with a 49.525 on balance beam. LSU was narrowly in second with a 49.450 on vault, followed by Cal with a 49.325 on bars and Utah with a 49.250 on floor. Davis led things off with a 9.875, followed by a 9.750 from Wells. In the No. 3 spot, Fatta drilled her dismount for a 9.875. Bowers showed off an upgrade in her routine and beautiful lines with a stuck dismount for a 9.9 in the No. 4 spot. Pederson had another strong showing in the penultimate spot, earning a 9.9 of her own. Anchoring was Torrez with a near-perfect 9.975. The junior showed off beautiful leaps and a stuck gainer full to close out the rotation strong.
OU extended its lead in the second rotation with a 49.525 on floor. In the leadoff spot, Davis's upbeat routine earned a 9.875, followed by a 9.85 from Sievers who showed off her powerful tumbling. Fatta earned a career-high in the No. 3 spot with a 9.875, followed by a career-high 9.875 for Pederson. In the No. 5 spot, Bowers incredible double-pike and intense choreography was rewarded with a season-best 9.95. Anchoring her second rotation was Torrez with a stunning opening double layout for a 9.95.
In the third rotation, the Sooners tallied a 49.200, to maintain a .125 lead over LSU. Pederson led off with a 9.825 on a strong 1.5. After a fall in the second spot, Torrez got things back on track with a 9.75, followed by a 9.85 from Wells. Bowers showcased a beautiful 1.5 for a 9.9 in the No. 5 spot. Davis anchored the rotation with a 9.875.
The Sooners used a massive 49.700 on bars to clinch the meet. Dani Sievers led things off with a gorgeous routine and stuck dismount for a 9.9. In the No. 2 spot, Fatta put up another strong performance for a 9.875. Pederson closed out her night with a stuck dismount and a career-high 9.95. Torrez' double layout was stuck cold for a 9.95, followed by Davis's near perfect routine featuring stunning handstands and a stick on the dismount. Bowers anchored with a 9.925 as the Sooners counted only marks of 9.9 or higher in the rotation.
Up next for Oklahoma is the home opener at Lloyd Noble Center on Friday, Jan. 17. OU will host Missouri to kick off SEC action at 7:15 p.m. CT.
