Officer Shawn Callaway, who has been with the department for four years, responded to the scene and saw one suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Rodney Turner, walking through the complex. Turner reportedly matched the description of one suspect in the home invasion. Officer Callaway tried to question Turner. That’s when Turner grabbed Officer Callaway’s rifle in an attempt to disarm the officer.

Officer Callaway said he could see Turner was armed during the struggle. He was able to draw his sidearm and fired at Turner.  Turner ran away from the scene, and his weapon was recovered at the scene of the struggle.

A short time later, police received a call of an individual who was shot by police in the 3400 block of N.W. 40th. Turner was located in an apartment at that address. He has been pronounced dead.

Officer Callaway has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the investigation of the shooting.

No other suspects were apprehended and the case is still under investigation. If you have any information on the burglary, call Crime Stoppers at (405)-235-7300.

This is Oklahoma City's 2nd homicide of 2016, according to police.
