Montana Artist Adds Wildlife Sculptures To Tulsa's Landscape

A new bronze sculpture is going in at 56th and Riverside this spring thanks to the NatureWorks organization.

They've put in dozens of sculptures all over town, many can be seen lining Riverside Drive.

“That's actually our dog Bonner, that border collie there,” artist Ron Lowery said.

Lowery is in Tulsa to show off his latest work of art.

A mountain goat is the newest addition to the NatureWorks displays all over town.

The artist originally wanted to be a cowboy, but he found himself doing foundry work, and ultimately working with bronze.

“I kind of just taught myself... it kind of just came naturally,” he said.

He came up with the idea of creating a mountain goat while visiting Glacier Park near his home in Montana.

“Me and my daughters, we stop at the Goat Lick [Overlook] and we watch the goat licks all the time, especially spring when the babies are coming down and they're kind of bouncing around."

NatureWorks is a nonprofit in Northeastern Oklahoma, and it contributes to various wildlife projects  in the area. It also is responsible for adorning the city with realistic wildlife monuments.

“All the proceeds go to wildlife conservation, and then we give back by beautifying Tulsa in one way or another,” Michael Linscott said.

The mountain goat will go in on Riverside Drive in May, the third sculpture in Tulsa for Lowery.

Lowery also has a special connection to the area. He recently found out he has Cherokee roots, and he is glad to say his trips to Oklahoma are teaching him more about his family history.
