A lot of exciting upgrades are coming to downtown Owasso, like the new development at First and Main.
But first, downtown Owasso needs a name and a brand.
Think about your favorite downtown area. It probably has a name.
And with that name comes branding like logos, signs and other ways to make that part of town unique.
The Blue Dome District is one of Tulsa's most popular areas.
And Broken Arrow's Rose District has expanded drastically since it rebranded.
That's exactly what Owasso's Main Street is looking for right now.
"When you're trying to create something special, just the natural tendency has been just to have that special name to accompany it,” said Bronce Stephenson, Director of Owasso Community Development. “We didn't reinvent the wheel. We look at successful places like Brookside, Cherry Street, new ones such as Blue Dome and the Rose District."
Stephenson formed a branding committee to narrow down all of the possible names to five choices: The Depot District, The Hub, Main Place, Redbud District and Scissortail District.
They're asking Owassoans to vote online for their favorite.
"We want the community to have some stake in it and get to say in 50 years, 'I had a part in naming Whatever District it may be called,'" stated Stephenson.
Voting ends Friday, and more than 1000 people have voted so far.
