University of Tulsa President Steadman Upham plans to retire at the end of 2016 after 12 years at the helm.

Steadman Upham retired as TU president in June 2012.  He was replaced by Geoffrey Orsak, who was president for just two months, before being fired.  The school says Upham then agreed to return to the position he had held since 2004.

"My wife, Peggy, and I believe this has been the most exciting and fulfilling chapter of our careers. The collective talent and spirit of the TU family is like no other, and together we have accomplished more than I would ever have expected," said Upham.

The school says TU's Board of Trustees has begun working on the selection process for the next president.

Upham plans to take a sabbatical in 2017 before returning to the university as a member of the faculty.
