A Bartlesville man has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatality accident. Bond for Kevin Myers Murphy, 38, was set at $25,000 in the death of Kelly Murphy.
Sources say the couple is married.
A court affidavit filed May 9, 2016, states Kevin Murphy wrecked into a tree just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday on County Road EW 2100 just east of State Highway 123 in Washington County. When state troopers, the Washington County Sheriff's Department and Bartlesville police and fire arrived, they found Kelly Murphy pinned inside the passenger seat of an Infinity. She was wearing a seat belt, the record states.
The affidavit of probable cause states that Kelly Murphy died a little after the crash, at 2:45 a.m., according to Bartlesville firefighters.
Two deputies and a state trooper went to the Murphy home on Mountain Road and found Kevin Murphy walking up the driveway, records show. Murphy reportedly told the deputies he was worried about his wife and just wanted her to be OK.
Deputies noted fresh injuries to Kevin Murphy including facial scrapes, bleeding and a finger injury. They could also "immediately smell a very strong odor of an intoxicating beverage," and report that he had red and watery eyes. Murphy said he could not remember what happened and did not know how much he'd had to drink, the affidavit states.
He was taken to a hospital to have blood drawn and did not answer any other questions, according to the state trooper. The trooper dropped Murphy off at his parents' home, and he turned himself in to the Washington County Jail at 4:23 p.m. Monday.
Bartlesville Radio reports that Murphy's next court date is June 1.
