A man suspected of impersonating a Tulsa County sheriff's deputy was identified as an Okmulgee County reserve deputy.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said someone from the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office recognized the man and contacted them.

The name of the man has not been released.

A woman said a man approached her at a QuikTrip at 11th and Garnett around 10:00 a.m. She said he identified himself as a Tulsa County deputy and took issue with her leaving her four-year-old granddaughter in the car.

She said the car was locked and the air conditioner was on.

The woman claims the man asked for her ID, appeared to call someone, then told her he was just going to give her a warning.

She said that's when she got suspicious and call the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office which later requested surveillance video from the store.

The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Department said it has placed the deputy on administrative leave pending an investigation.

“It’s a crime to impersonate a law enforcement officer”, says TCSO Spokesperson Casey Roebuck. “We don’t know what this person’s motives were when he approached this woman. That is why it’s important that we identify him and speak with him.”

Anytime you want to confirm you are speaking with an actual deputy, you can call 918-596-5600.
