An attorney who’s worked in the criminal justice system more than 25 years was a recent robbery victim.

It happened on a Saturday afternoon in downtown Tulsa; the whole thing was caught on tape.

Larry Edwards served as an assistant district attorney for 14 years and has been a defense attorney for 12, so he's put criminals away and tried to keep them out, but now he's on yet another side and can't believe it.

"It was like, is this really happening? After all these years, I couldn't believe it was happening," he said.

As Edwards left his office near 4th and Boulder on a recent Saturday at 4:00 in the afternoon, a man with a gun came up behind him. demanded money and threatened to shoot Larry.

"I thought about trying to flee, run away. I thought about trying to grab the gun and wrestle it away, but in those split seconds, hopefully, I made the right decision to give him the money and walk away,” Edwards said. “And, hopefully, catch him some other day."

Tulsa averages about 100 robberies a month. Police say giving up the money is the smart bet.

Sergeant Brandon Watkins said, "Basically you're playing the odds, and the odds are in your favor if you do what they want you to do. The moment you start fighting back there's variables that come into play, and you'll get killed more often than not."

Edwards hopes someone will come forward if they know the robber. He said he doesn’t like the idea of someone wandering downtown, robbing people at gunpoint in broad daylight.
