A Tulsa police officer is speaking out after his Facebook post about an officer-involved shooting went viral.

Officer Popsey Floyd said he wants others to step up and help change their communities.

"This is major. This is a big deal, it's a big issue," he said.

Terence Crutcher's killing, at the hands of Tulsa police officer Betty Shelby joined the list of officer-involved shootings where black men were killed.

Floyd got frustrated at some of the comments he was seeing on Facebook, so he decided to write a post.

In it, he says "I work for you. I will protect you. I do not take the Authority that comes with my badge for granted."

He goes on to say "If you believe that change is required, please join the department and be the change that you are seeking."

"'Why can't you fix this? You work on the department, things aren't changing.' You know, things of that nature, and my response, is always simply, 'You're right, you know?’ I'm just one person," Floyd said.

He said when he posted on Facebook he did not expect it to get thousands of shares.

He's been interviewed by media outlets nationwide about the post, and Floyd said he wanted to inspire others to help fix problems not just talk about them.

"When I wrote the post, I wasn't necessarily trying to, you know, aim it at everyone, but, you know, sometimes, the answer is you," he said.

The post is getting mostly positive feedback on the web.

Floyd said he's determined to keep the conversation going until everyone is able to trust law enforcement.

"I go out of my way to let people know that I'm listening. And not only that I'm listening, but, you know, that I'm responding and doing my best to make a difference," he said.
