Two Tulsa families are looking for another place to stay after a south Tulsa fire damages several apartments Friday morning.
Firefighters say the fire broke out at 9:30 a.m. at the Royal Oaks apartments near 61st and Lewis.
They say no one was injured.
Fire investigators are trying to determine if the fire started outside and worked its way in or if started in the first-floor apartment where 77-year-old June Thompson lived with her great-grandson.
Neither were home when the fire started.
Her apartment was destroyed when the fire started.
"It's the worst thing that probably ever happened to me, but I'll be all right," said June Thompson.
Firefighters were able to salvage some of Thompson's belongings, but many other things can't be recovered. Thompson says she doesn't have renters insurance, but will stay with family.
Another woman and her son lived in the apartment above Thompson's unit. Firefighters say they were both asleep when the fire started, but some alert neighbors banged on their door to make sure they got out safely.
Another apartment sustained smoke and water damage as well.
