The man charged in the murder of Khalid Jabara, the Lebanese-American whose family claimed the suspect had harassed them for years, will return to court November 30 for a competency hearing.
A judge will decide whether Stanley Vernon Majors is competent to stand trial.
Majors is represented by a public defender, and I talked with Chief Public Defender Rob Nigh about what to expect in court. Nigh said they are requesting a review of Major's competence. Nigh said to be competent to stand trial, a person has to meet a couple of criteria:
Majors is charged with several crimes, including first-degree murder, after prosecutors say he shot and killed Khalid Jabara in August. The Jabara family says Majors had been harassing them for years based on their race; Jabara had Lebanese heritage.
The hearing was initially set for the 16th of November.
