Pawhuska Schools Canceled For Rest Of Week Due To Gas Leak

Classes were canceled for the rest of the week for students in Pawhuska as Governor Mary Fallin declares a state of emergency due to a gas leak.

The natural gas leak is on school campus on the girls' softball field.

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board says there are 28 geo-thermal gas wells on site and two of them are seeping gas.

State and federal agencies are working to figure what caused the leak.

Most everyone in Pawhuska wants to know too as they packed into the community center Monday night to learn more.

The plan is to install a ventilation system over the next couple of days.

The EPA says air samples inside and out are safe.

Classes in Pawhuska were supposed to start last Thursday.

The district wants school to start soon, but there's no exact time set.
