More Green Country Groups Head To Texas To Help Flood Victims

Several Green Country groups are leaving Wednesday, heading to south Texas to help flooding victims.

One of those groups will leave from the First Baptist Church of Sapulpa where volunteers started showing up around 7:30 a.m. to load up a bus as they prepared to make the trip to Houston.

The Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team said there's nearly 30 people making the trip to spend 10 days at a Houston convention center to feed those forced out of their homes.

The disaster relief team said they have a semi ready to cook nearly 25,000 hot meals a day.

Director Don Williams said they want to help victims make the best of a bad situation.

"Most of the time when we visit with folks, this is the first time they've walked through it," he said. "God's equipped us to walk beside them."

Organizers said they plan to send another group from Lawton next week.

Another group headed to south Texas include Pug Rescue and Sanctuary of Owasso. They'll be stationed in Victoria, Texas, looking for animals that have been abandoned since Hurricane Harvey.

And Oklahoma Emergency Management says it will be sending 125 people to Louisiana to run a shelter there.
