A group will be filing a veto referendum petition Tuesday afternoon with the secretary of state's office.
Oklahoma Taxpayers Unite! will file their petition at 1 p.m. and wants the opportunity to repeal HB 1010XX in a vote. HB 1010XX was the largest tax increase in state history and is was passed to fund teacher pay raises and common education funding.
The group claims the "taxes were raised without any fiscally responsible requests for audits and ultimate reforms." The group also cited mismanagement of state funds, using the missing $230 million from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation's budget as an example.
Once the petition has been filed, the Secretary of State will wait 10 business days for any protest to be filed of the petition.
If no protest is filed, the group will begin to collect signatures.
