Orejas, the Chihuahua, recently came into a local shelter as a stray.
“It’s incredible because she’s 5.4lbs,” said Misty Wilson with Bella SPCA. “I don’t know how she’s alive or doesn’t have internal infections.”
The dog’s hind leg was in horrible shape. The bone was completely exposed.
Doctors say she could've had something wrapped around it or suffered some sort of major trauma.
“Whatever happened, it had been there a really long time,” said Dr. Brian Jones at Woodlake Animal Hospital. “Probably with that foot for weeks, if not months.”
Bella SPCA rescued her from the shelter and created a GoFundMe to help pay for her care.
“She wasn’t aggressive, she wasn’t mean, she was just wanting care,” said Wilson. “Instantly, she was eating chicken out of our hands and wanting to cuddle up with us.”
Donations poured in and doctors amputated the dog's leg.
“It’s awesome,” Wilson said. “We have a great community.”
Feeling so much better now, she's staying with a foster family and will soon find a forever home.
