Snake Creek Marina Total Loss After Tornado Rips Through Area

People are cleaning up tornado damage at Snake Creek Marina at Lake Tenkiller. The storm tore apart the marina and damaged more than 100 boats.

The same marina was severely damaged by a storm two years ago, but people say it doesn't even compare to the mess this tornado left behind.

As far as anyone can see, there's mangled metal, flipped over boats, and debris scattered in the water.

“I ran up Snake Creek wilderness to a friend’s house and got in the basement, but I could hear this. You could hear metal tearing and this terrible squealing noise," said Boat Owner Amy Brown.

Brown was born and raised around Snake Creek and has never seen anything like this. Osage SkyNews 6 HD flew over the lake where boats of all sizes are damaged, including Amy's.

"We are just going to try to get it over here and then try to assess if we can save it and our hope is to save it. You know they are expensive and that's our hope," said Brown.

Friday's tornado tore apart every dock at the marina and the owner says it is a total loss.

"The storm that hit here a year or two ago now is nothing compared to this. I thought when I was coming down the hill, I had this thought that our boat was right in here, that it was going to be okay, and nowhere near," said Brown.

Crews are working to clean up all the debris near the shore but it is just the start to a long road to recovery.

“It’s disaster everywhere we go right now. All of these local communities are hit and of course, I sell houses here and a lot of the people I've sold homes to and stuff there's tragic. Their roofs are gone. Their homes are gone," said Brown.

The plan is to get as much debris out of the water as they can and then start saving as many boats as possible.
