Tulsa Police said a man died in a car crash early Tuesday morning in west Tulsa. He has been identified as Bradford Wilson, 48.
They said an officer on patrol spotted the crash at West 41st Street and South 29th West Avenue at about 5:20 a.m.
Tulsa Police Corporal Will Dalsing said Wilson's Nissan Sentra was nearly split in two when it hit the tree. He said the impact pushed the car's engine into the passenger compartment.
"He was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed here on 41st Street," Dalsing said.
"There is a slight curve, and judging from the marks on the road he did not make the turn - or could not make the turn - at the speed he was going."
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said speed was a major factor.
There was no evidence that any other vehicles were involved in the crash, TPD said.
