Tahlequah Police were involved in a standoff October 7 that resulted in the death of one man.
According to police, the standoff took place near South State Avenue after Bobby Vaughn came out of his house and fired shots at officers. Police said when they approached his porch after a domestic disturbance call, Vaughn ran inside and fired shots at the officers. Officers then began a standoff with Vaughn.
Chief of Police Nate King said when he arrived three officers told Vaughn to drop his weapon while he stood at the front door. King said the officers opened fire on Vaughn, shooting him once in the chest, which killed Vaughn.
"At that time, what they indicated was that the subject raised his handgun at them again. They had already been shot at once. They gave him commands. They feared for their lives and fired their shot," King said.
King said there will be a criminal investigation as well as an internal investigation of the officers.
