Eiffel Tower

Unsurprisingly, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most visited monuments in the world.

In fact, it ranks number four in terms of most visited monuments in the world, receiving approximately 6.7 million visitors per year.

If you’re planning to visit Paris, you know that your trip is simply not complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. After all, it is one of the most defining monuments of all of France, if not all of Europe.

But, because it’s such a popular monument, there are some things you should know before you visit so you can make the most of your experience.

Check out this guide to discover the top things to know before visiting the Eiffel Tower.

1. If You Plan to Climb, Book Your Tickets in Advance

If you plan to actually climb the Eiffel Tower, then you should definitely book your tickets in advance.

If you just plan to catch a view of it from the outside, then no ticket is necessary.

If you don’t buy your ticket in advance, you’ll likely spend a lot of time waiting in line- up to two hours or more in peak season. There’s also the risk of tickets selling out at the gate if you’re traveling in peak season.

When purchasing your ticket online, make sure to choose the “Lift entrance ticket with access to the summit” if you’d like to go all the way to the top. Currently, this costs 25 euro for adults and 12.50 for those between the ages of 12 and 24.

Also, if you plan on visiting multiple tourist sites on your visit to Paris, it may be smart to buy a tourist pass so you can save some money.

2. Check the Weather

If possible, you definitely want to see the Eiffel Tower when it’s nice and sunny outside.

However, if you know anything about Paris weather, you know that asking for sunny weather during certain months of the year is basically like asking for a miracle.

But, it’s still worth it to check the forecast to see which day is best to ascent.

3. Take the Stairs Down

The Eiffel Tower is notorious for extremely long elevator lines. So, beat the wait by taking the stairs down.

You’ll have to take the elevator down from the top from the second level, but you can then use the stairs the rest of the way.

It takes approximately 5 minutes to walk between each level, and the walking descent will go much faster than the elevator line.

4. Catch the Best Views

True Parisians know that some of the best views of the Eiffel Tower exist far away from its grounds.

Here are some places in the city to catch great views of the Eiffel Tower, both at night and during the day:

  • Sacre Couer
  • Montparnasse Tower
  • Jardins du Trocadero
  • Rue de l’Université
  • Seine banks
  • Square Rapp

If the weather cooperates, you can get excellent views of the tower from all over the city.
