Kevin Stitt won't officially start serving Oklahomans as governor for two more days but he is already impacting Oklahoma families.
More than three hundred foster families from Oklahoma joined Kevin Stitt and his wife Sarah, at the Oklahoma Aquarium for a day of fun. The Scissortail Children's Festival is one of Stitt's pre-inaguration events in Green Country.
"It's amazing how many people are actually taking the time out for these kids who need people who will love them and care about them and give them a safe home." said Lou Mefferd, a foster parent at the event.
Three hundred tickets to the event were donated to foster families in Oklahoma and other other tickets sales will be donated to non-profits supporting the foster system.
"In Oklahoma we have about 8,800 kids that are in the care of our state," said Stitt. "That's kind of out of the norm. We've got more than other states so I am trying to recruit families."
Kids got the chance to explore all of the exhibits, participate in activities and even enjoy some ice cream. Lou Meffered said she has been a foster parent for eight months now and is blown away with the support.
"There's so many children in the state that need people who have loving hearts and can provide kids with a stable environment." Mefferd said.
Parents and kids lined up anxiously waiting for a picture with the governor elect. Stitt said he's just excited to get to work.
"I'm so humbled that Oklahomans gave me this opportunity and we have a fantastic state and I want to lead us and direct us to become top 10." said Stitt.
