School In Southwest OKC Evacuated Due To Report Of Fire, Smoke

Crews responded to a report of smoke and fire at a school in southwest Oklahoma City, Thursday morning.

Firefighters arrived at the scene of Rockwood Elementary near Southwest 24th Street and South Grand Blvd around 9:00 a.m. Firefighters arrived on scene and immediately worked to find a source of the haze.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department reported all students were relocated to the gymnasium during the evaluation.

TAC 5: Rockwood Elementary: All children have been relocated to the gymnasium which is a separate area from where the smoky haze was reported. Firefighters on the roof now checking the HVAC unit. Some rigs have been returned to service already. -BF 8:59 a.m.

Authorities reported the source of the fire origininated from a fan motor on a HVAC unit.

TAC 5: The source of smoke at Rockwood Elementary School was a fan motor on an HVAC unit. School maintenance has been notified. No injuries, and children will be allowed to resume their day shortly (although they were probably having fun in the gym while they waited). -BF 9:18
