Fresh off a trip visiting troops in the Middle East, Gov. Mary Fallin rebuked reports her meeting with President-elect Donald Trump was less than smooth.
Fallin said she received calls from Trump's Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Vice President-elect Mike Pence, R-Indiana, reassuring her there was no truth to the reports.
“There was no awkward conversation at all. They said it was a great interview. ‘We appreciate you and all that you've done,’” she said, quoting the two men.
Once rumored for the secretary of the interior, Fallin appears to be out of the running. Reports indicate that job is going to Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke, according to CBS News.
However, Fallin hinted that Pence said there may be other positions she could fill.
“He said we're looking to you at several different positions if you choose to have interest in any of these things, but he said it's very competitive that we're interviewing day in and day out,” Fallin said.
She also addressed what's next for the Oklahoma attorney general's office. Current Attorney General Scott Pruitt was tapped last week as to head the EPA in Trump's White House, with rumors already starting his confirmation may be a battle on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.
“He's known to be a fighter,” Fallin said. “He's known to stand up for the principals he believes in. He tackles tough issues.”
When it came to the possibility of an open spot for attorney general, Fallin said it is too early to talk replacements, despite taking calls from those interested in taking over.
“I'm not in any hurry to make any decisions because there's not a vacancy,” she said.
Pruitt has not resigned from his position yet nor has the Senate Judiciary Committee set a date for his confirmation hearings.
Fallin expected it could be months before Pruitt is in front of the committee. The Trump transition team sent out a statement Tuesday, stating Mr. Pruitt is not providing not providing media interviews during the confirmation process.
