Officers with the OKC Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 123 (OKC FOP) surprised shoppers at two metro stores by purchasing their Thanksgiving groceries, just in time for the holiday.
Tuesday night, the officers surprised shoppers at the Buy for Less at N.W. 29th and May Avenue, and the Smart Saver at 23rd and Martin Luther King by purchasing their Thanksgiving groceries.
“We’re especially thankful for the support of our citizens this year, amid the tensions between police and residents in communities around the country,” said John George, president of OKC FOP. “The holidays are a financially stressful time, so we want to take this opportunity to give back and say thank you to the citizens of Oklahoma City.”
The OKC FOP treated 15 families to their Thanksgiving groceries.
“A lot of pressure has been taken off my shoulders,” said Carletta Walter, who received one of the surprises. “I didn’t know what I was going to do. I might have had to put some groceries back. This is such a blessing.”
