In their fourth meeting this season, OKC Energy FC defeated Tulsa Roughnecks FC, 1-0, at Taft Stadium Saturday night. A goal from Wojciech Wojcik secured the Energy’s undefeated record in the 2016 season against the Roughnecks.
The Energy did not allow a single goal against Tulsa this season, outscoring them 8-0 in four matches.
The lone Energy goal came in stoppage time of the first half. Danni König ran through the Roughnecks defense after a ball from midfielder Michael Thomas. König chipped the ball over Tulsa keeper, Jake Feener, but a Roughneck defender made a diving stop to keep the ball out. However, Wojcik was next in line to put the ball away for what would be the match's lone score.
Kalen Ryden and Michael Thomas also had chances in the first half. Ryden hit back-to-back headers that glanced off the post from a corner kick in the 40th minute and Thomas hit a shot inside the eighteen that Feener denied with a diving stop.
Shots came in the second half as well. In the 81st minute, Linus Olsson served a ball to Timo Pitter on the left side. Pitter dribbled inside the box and hammered a shot just wide. Daniel Gonzalez also just missed a score from inside the Tulsa 18 late in the second half.
The win marked Cody Laurendi’s 12th shutout of the season, with the OKC goal keeper needing just one shutout to tie the all-time USL record for shutouts in a season.
OKC next visits Saint Louis FC on Wednesday for a mid-week matchup. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. CDT at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
