The Oklahoma City Fire Department is looking for 5k runners. You can get some exercise and help save lives in the event of a fire.
Working smoke alarms is something every home needs. In Oklahoma City, the fire department provides it, but right now their stock is running low.
“Because we provide these free of charge, there is no reason why every home in Oklahoma City shouldn’t have working smoke alarms,” said Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson.
Fulkerson said for as long as he can remember, firefighters have been installing new smoke alarms in homes at no cost because he knows that it can actually save lives.
All the money for the free smoke alarms are raised through the Annual Project Life Run. This year is the fourth annual run and it is coming up on September 10th at Regatta Park.
Fulkerson said as of Thursday, only 150 people have signed up. The goal and maximum is 500 runners.
To sign up, head to www.okc.gov/fire and find a link to Project Life Run.
