Oklahoma Volunteers Mobilize To Help Flood-Ravaged Louisiana

Local aid workers are heading out Wednesday morning to flood-ravaged Baton Rouge, Louisiana. 

Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief said 60 volunteers and semi-trucks full of food and supplies will leave about 8 a.m. from Edmond. 

Organization Director Sam Porter said once they get there Wednesday night, his people will have the ability to serve as many as 30,000 meals a day. 

“We’ll stay in church fellowship halls or gymnasiums, and sleep on five-star cots or air mattresses they take with them,” he said. “Because there really is no room at the inn, to give a biblical statement.” 

Porter said this is his group’s largest mobilization since the Moore tornado three years ago. 

He said dozens of volunteers will be shuttling to and from Baton Rouge for at least the next month. 

Brad Biddy is a retired Devon Energy geologist who volunteers.

“It’s really rewarding,” he said.
