With the state tournament in full swing for high school baseball teams, the Edmond Memorial bulldogs advance to the 6A state championship while Shawnee advances to the 5A title game.
Edmond Memorial beat Jenks 12-2
Jenks took an early 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs in the first inning when a Matt Gaskins’ single scored Josh Foster, but things went south for the Trojans in the third inning when a Seth Graves two-run double blew open the door, and next thing you know Memorial was up 7-1 after the frame. Jenks was able to tack on one more run later in the game, but Memorial was able to move onto the championship game after a run rule in the semis.
Shawnee beat Bishop Kelley 8-5
With the scored tied at 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning, Shawnee was able to go up 6-5 on an infield single from Cole Payne with two outs, and then the Wolves added a couple more runs to make it 8-5 after an error from Bishop Kelley’s second baseman. Bishop Kelley had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner on first and second and only one out, but Shawnee was able to flip a double play and went on to win it in the eighth.
