A Moore High School teacher is behind bars Tuesday, charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
A warrant was put out for Sandra Mayfield, 51, after an alleged incident between her and the student in late February 2016.
Court documents state that Mayfield met with the teen in a Moore parking lot around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 27. The victim told police the two drove around Oklahoma City and Nichols Hills for a while before walking around downtown.
Surveillance cameras from downtown buildings captured the two kissing and hugging. Cell tower information also corroborated the teen’s story.
Around 1 a.m. the teen said Mayfield drove him to Buck Thomas Park on NE 12 St. in Moore. It was at the park that the victim told police Mayfield performed oral sex on him.
Mayfield was arraigned and booked into the Cleveland County Jail Tuesday afternoon.
Moore Public Schools Director of Safety and Security Dustin Horstkoetter issued the following statement regarding this incident:
“Moore Public Schools places the safety and welfare of its students ahead of any other interests, and will continue to take necessary steps to safeguard their emotional, physical, and educational well-being.
Information was received of possible improper behavior on Friday, March 4th, 2016. The teacher was suspended immediately and placed on administrative leave. Law enforcement was also immediately contacted by the District.
The charges filed this afternoon against our employee are shocking and upsetting and are not representative of the hundreds of other teachers who work hard every day to provide a safe and quality education for the students in the Moore Public School District.
As always, we will continue to cooperate with the police department and District Attorney’s office. We are thankful for their diligent work in this matter and have full confidence in the legal process.
At this time, being consistent with any incident such as this, the employee remains on administrative leave while the case works its way through the court process.”
