A man charged with killing his father, former Oklahoma State Labor Commissioner Mark Costello, was assaulted by two inmates at the Oklahoma County Jail.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office, the assault happened on Monday. The inmates were able to jam their cell doors, which allowed them to open the door when they were not supposed to.
As Costello opened his door to leave his cell for recreation time, the two inmates opened their doors and ran into Costello’s cell. Costello was assaulted there and then dragged out by the two inmates. The assault continued in the recreation area for about a minute.
Right now, the Sheriff’s office said it is investigating the incident and preparing charges against the two inmates to present to the District Attorney. The names of the two inmates will be released once the report is complete.
The extent of Costello's injuries is unclear at this time.
Mark Costello's wife, Cathy Costello, told News 9 that Christian Costello had been off his medicines, because the jail ran out of those medicines.
