Family Of Missing Norman Man Speaks Out After Remains Discovered

OSBI investigators found skeletal remains in a trash dump off Pine Corner Road in Pottawatomie County.

Investigators from several agencies spent hours picking through all the trash, looking for evidence of human remains after getting a tip that the body of Corey Maxwell Jr. had been dumped there. The OSBI confirms they did find some bones on Wednesday, and then found more skeletal remains Thursday morning.

“We believe they are Corey Maxwell's we don't have 100 percent assurance on that. DNA testing will likely be done unless we can do dental comparison or something to that affect.”

News 9 visited with Corey Maxwell's family at his parent's home in Norman shortly after they received news of the gruesome discovery.

“I know his mother right now is devastated, his sisters are beyond devastated,” said Loretta Wilson, who identifies herself as Corey Maxwell’s aunt.

Norman police say Maxwell was reported missing on September 17, after his family didn't hear from him for an entire week. Wilson says at first they did not suspect foul play, but she says when he didn't return any phone calls to his mother and sisters, they knew something was very wrong.

“We prayed that this wouldn't come to this,” said Wilson. “The only thing I can say is whoever did this to him, that justice is served, and that he spends a very long time behind bars.”

News 9 was there as OSBI agents were serving a search warrant Thursday morning at a home in Moore in connection with the investigation. Norman police confirm there was also an arrest warrant served at a home in Norman on Tuesday night, but would not release any other information – only saying it was part of the OSBI investigation.

News 9 checked the Department of Corrections records and discovered Maxwell does have a long criminal history for several felony crimes. He was just released from prison last year. But his family says he was trying to turn his life around.

“All I can say is he was a good kid,” said Wilson. “He was! I spent some time with him before he went missing and he was happy go lucky -  seeing his kids, getting to spend time with them, and trying to make things right in his life.”

Right now, the medical Examiner’s office has those skeletal remains and will be the agency who makes the positive identification.

The OSBI said they haven't made any arrests in this case or named any suspects. But the Cleveland County DA told News 9 they are looking at two people who are already in jail on other charges to see if they have any information that can help investigators with this case, and to help them solve the mystery of what happened to Cory Maxwell Junior.
