Voters in McClain County voted no to permanently extending a half-cent sales tax and creating an additional 5/8 cent sales tax to build a new courthouse and jail.
According to unofficial results, 77 percent voted to reject the tax with 2,787 votes against it and 834 votes for it.
The 5/8 cent sales tax was added to help construct a new jail and courthouse. The plan asked voters to approve the tax for up to 20 years in order to fund the construction. Of that tax, however, 3/8 would remain permanent for building maintenance.
