Police: Man Vandalized Minco High School's Football Field

The Minco High School football team is desperately trying to put their football field back together in time for the season opener Friday.

The field was torn apart after a man did donuts in his pickup early Saturday morning.

Police say the man busted through a gate Saturday morning and drove all over the field in his full size pickup.

“Intoxicated people do crazy things,” Minco police Chief Brian Hau said about the suspect.

The suspect admitted to the crime, but police will not release his name until he’s arrested and formally charged, Hau said.

Minco Bulldog football players spent Saturday trying to repair the deep ruts and gashes in the grass.

“It hurts us all as a team,” Minco High School senior Ry Schneider said.

Due to the damage, Minco High School may have to play its season opener on the road if their field is unsafe.

“If we miss a home football game, that is $4,000 to $5,000 of income that goes directly into our athletic budget,” Minco Schools Superintendent Kevin Sims said.

Sims said the school district will try to get the suspect to pay restitution if it loses out on hosting the game Friday because of the damage.

The school district has filled in the deep ruts with dirt and has planted more grass.

The hope is that the ground will be hard enough for play. 

Minco High School has another home game scheduled for next Friday as well.
